This tractor started off as a 1974 New Idea EGT 150 electric tractor, built by GE, and in 2005 I converted it to use Nickel Cadmium batteries (200 amp-hours @ 36 volts, 7.2 kWh) and to recharge exclusively off a 160-watt solar array mounted on my garage roof. I get over 4 hours of runtime when operating the snowblower in the winter or the mower deck in the summer. This system has performed flawlessly for almost 6 years and it really makes me wonder why we use highly-polluting, uncalayzed fossil burners to perform such simple, mundane tasks.
